Scott is an esteemed leader as the Vice President of Operations for ALERTCalifornia and ALERTWest, where his contributions have helped shape the organization's success. With over 17+ years of experience, Scott currently serves as the Co-designer of ALERTCalifornia's cutting-edge camera control platform. In his role, he oversees the 24/7 Operations Center, providing comprehensive support to first responders and emergency managers across California and neighboring states, utilizing a vast network of 1,000+ wildfire detection cameras.

Scott's expertise spans camera network design, camera installation scopes, system budgeting, and network infrastructure maintenance. The system he has helped create serves as a powerful all-hazards situational awareness tool, harnessing technology-driven solutions to enhance emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

Professional Background
Chief Wells was hired by the Kern County Fire Department in 2005. He has served the citizens of Kern County as; a Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief and promoted to his current role as Deputy Fire Chief. As a Deputy Chief he overseas Kern County Fire Department’s Emergency Communication Center, Technology Services, Public Information Office, and Community Risk Reduction Division. Chief Wells serves as a Liaison to ALERTCalifornia based out of the University of California San Diego.

Education
Chief Wells attended El Dorado High School in Placentia, CA, Santa Ana College and Concordia University Irvine. Chief Wells holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Leadership and is working towards his Master’s degree in Business Administration and Executive Fire Officer at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD.

Specialized Training
As a Firefighter and Engineer, Chief Wells was a state certified Paramedic and Hazardous Materials Specialist. As a Fire Captain, he served a special assignment as a Duty Officer working in the Emergency Communication Center. He is a certified State Fire Officer and is currently working towards his Chief Fire Officer designation.
