The increased frequency with which wildfires now occur, longer annual fire seasons, a resultant thinning of community fire-fighting resources and official advice to both create “defensible spaces” and “shelter in place” intensifies the need for household and personal self-reliance. This seminar demonstrates how new battery storage and wireless communications technology can be harnessed to defend properties in the event of wildfires, allowing owners to act as their own first responders.

About Michael Flaster

Michael Flaster has over 40 years of professional communications experience. He holds an MA in Telecommunications and a BA in Philosophy. A multi-award-winning producer and programmer who enjoyed a career in broadcast television and radio management, Mr. Flaster has taught in the Communication Departments of San Diego and Kent State Universities and was a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
He served as a media consultant advising a range of institutions including National Public Radio and the broadcasting systems of the Republic of Moldova before turning his attention to tackling a growing byproduct of climate change, Wildfires.
Author of four United States and three Foreign Patents, Flaster is developing a prototype for a portable, wirelessly activated, battery-powered fire pump to defend properties in the event of wildfires, allowing owners to act as their own first responders in the critical moments before additional help can arrive.
