Preparedness, Response and Recovery in an Ever-Changing World

The humanitarian impacts of climate change are already occurring and predicted
to increase. They include disaster-caused:

DISPLACEMENT, HOMELESSNESS,POVERTY, ILLNESS & DEATH
WATER SCARCITY, FOOD INSECURITY

These climate change impacts affect vulnerable populations disproportionately
and will increase the need for our services. This session will touch on how the
Red Cross is preparing communities in the National conversation on resilience.

About Alexander Newman

Alexander Newman serves as a Disaster Program Manager for the Southern California Region of the American Red Cross.
Alex manages the volunteer teams and oversees the implementation of disaster responses in his territory, serving clients during disasters large and small. During larger disaster operations, Alex serves in his capacity as the Government Liaison, coordinating disaster services with city, county, and statewide partners. He has served with the Red Cross for almost one year, previously having served in refugee responses with the International Rescue Committee and the United Nations.
Alex earned his Bachelor of Science in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University and his Master of Philosophy in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge.
